Description
A selection from the late 1800s, “Early Golden” has helped set the standard for persimmons for over a hundred years. Seen as such a superior cultivar, it was used heavily in the more recent breeding works of Jerry Lehman and Jim Claypool. It is an earlier-ripening persimmon, bearing 1-1½ inch fruits which turn a dark orange and are said to have a similar taste and sweetness to dates when fully ripe. Considered by many to be one of the best American persimmon cultivars.
