Early Golden Persimmon

Considered one of the best American persimmons for over 100 years, yields large crops of persimmons whose flavor has been compared to dates when fully ripe. Early cropping and recommended for more Northern growers.

Description

A selection from the late 1800s, “Early Golden” has helped set the standard for persimmons for over a hundred years. Seen as such a superior cultivar, it was used heavily in the more recent breeding works of Jerry Lehman and Jim Claypool. It is an earlier-ripening persimmon, bearing 1-1½ inch fruits which turn a dark orange and are said to have a similar taste and sweetness to dates when fully ripe. Considered by many to be one of the best American persimmon cultivars.
