Overleese

Banana/Mango/Melon flavor; Mid ripening

$54.99$124.99

Selected from the wild by W.B. Ward of Rushville, IN in 1950, “Overleese” is a long-standing favorite as one of the original pawpaw cultivars and which has helped to create the current pawpaw scene as we know it today. It has been used as a parent tree in many of the “improved” cultivars including Neal Peterson’s “Shenandoah”. An excellent pawpaw in its own right, “Overleese” produces good size yields of exceptional quality, medium to large sized fruit with yellow/orange flesh and a creamy texture. The flavor is the archetypal banana/mango/melon flavor that pawpaws are renowned for and takes on a butterscotch flavor when skin turns brown. It won the “Best Fruit” in 2011 at the Ohio Pawpaw Festival, proving what an outstanding cultivar it really is, 70+ years after being introduced to the nursery trade. Ripens mid season.
