A Precocious Treat for All
Another treat coming out of Jerry Lehman’s breeding and selection work, “Deer Candy” certainly lives up to its name.
The tree has a more upright growing habit and is rather precocious, sometimes beginning to produce within as little as 2-3 years. Fruits are beautifully orange, sweet and larger in size, averaging around 2 inches. The tree has a long production season and can hold some of its fruits well into December, especially the father south it is grown. This characteristic extends the harvest season significantly which can be highly advantageous to backyard growers, homesteaders, producers and hunters alike. Not just for the deer, “Deer Candy” is a real treat for anyone who gets the chance to partake of its sweet goodness!
