A Premium Variety for Exceptional Fruit Quality
Prok American Persimmon is a standout variety because of its exceptional fruit quality and reliable performance. Grown by John Gordon of Amherst, NY, this cultivar originated as a seedling from the Cornell University breeding program, where it was carefully selected for its outstanding characteristics.
Today, ‘Prok’ is widely regarded as one of the best-quality American persimmons available on the market. One of the most notable features of Prok is its fruit. The tree produces abundant crops of very large fruits, measuring 2½ to 3 inches in diameter, making them larger than many other American persimmon varieties. When fully ripe, the fruits boast an exceptional honey-sweet flavor that is both rich and delicious.
Another advantage of Prok American Persimmon is its earlier ripening period which, when combined with its ability to thrive in colder climates, makes it an excellent option for growers in more northern regions.
USDA zones: 5b-9
**Prok is generally considered to be self-fertile and does not require a male pollinator to set fruit.**
Spacing: 15-20 foot centers unless otherwise specified
Pollination Requirements: Many grafted persimmon trees are self-fertile, however, some cultivars are not. Generally a male pollinator will increase the size and quality of the harvest. It is not uncommon to have a wild male persimmon within range of your planting if it is near an area with native persimmons.
