A Unique, Flavorful Cultivar with Exceptional Growth Habit
Named by Jerry Lehman during a trip to visit Bill Owens in Dollywood, TN, the Dollywood persimmon tree stands out for its remarkable characteristics. This cultivar produces an abundant harvest of large, flavorful persimmons, each averaging 2.5 inches in diameter.
One of its most distinctive features is its unusual growth habit—spreading outward instead of upward. This creates a broad canopy with drooping branches that are beautifully adorned with heavy clusters of fruit. The Dollywood persimmon is an excellent choice for those seeking both aesthetic appeal and a high-yielding fruit tree.
USDA zones: 4-9
Spacing: 15-20 foot centers
Grafted onto: Diosypros virginiana (native American persimmon rootstock)
Other Considerations: Grafted American persimmons do not require a second cultivar for cross-polination. (This means that you do not need to buy two trees with different names.)
Beautiful Beginnings persimmons have highly-developed and extensive root systems that set your tree up for success from the very beginning by helping it to anchor well and grow vigorously with proper care.
All persimmons are shipped dormant and bareroot in the Spring.
