A Historic Cultivar with Timeless Appeal
Early Golden American persimmon is a classic variety that has set the standard for high-quality persimmons since its introduction in the late 1800s. Renowned for its superior traits, this cultivar has been a foundational choice in the breeding programs of legendary horticulturists Jerry Lehman and Jim Claypool and is the one of the parents trees of ‘Valeene Beauty‘.
It is an earlier-ripening persimmon, bearing 1-1½ inch fruits which turn a dark orange and are said to have a similar taste and sweetness to dates when fully ripe. Considered by many to be one of the best American persimmon cultivars.
Recommended for Northern Growers
USDA zones: 4-9
Spacing: 15-20 foot centers
Grafted onto: Diosypros virginiana (native American persimmon rootstock)
Other Considerations: Grafted American persimmons do not require a second cultivar for cross-polination. (This means that you do not need to buy two trees with different names.)
Beautiful Beginnings persimmons have highly-developed and extensive root systems that set your tree up for success from the very beginning by helping it to anchor well and grow vigorously with proper care.
All persimmons are shipped dormant and bareroot in the Spring.
