It Has the Big 3: Size, Flavor & Early
A real gem coming out of the Jame’s Claypool breeding program, “Early Jewel” is a highly favored and sought-after American persimmon cultivar.
This tree is known to be a highly adaptive, precocious and consistent producer that also has a unique characteristic: When grown south of the Ohio River, it is seedless due to it being a 90 Chromosome persimmon. This fact makes it a perfect choice for those (south of the OH River) who are looking to process the fruits as you will not need to deseed them first. The fruits themselves are of an extremely high-quality, large and red colored. Fruits are softer and have a distinctly sweet butterscotch/rum flavor.
“Early Jewel” is one of the earliest ripening American persimmons, making it a great choice for those looking to extend their growing season, as well as, for those living in zones with shorter growing seasons. Praised for its combination of size, flavor and early ripening time, this tree is an all-around winner!
