One of the Most Productive Cold-Hardy Mulberries

(Morus latifolia)

Originating in Korea and used in the silkworm industry for it’s beautifully over-sized leaves, “Kokuso” is a very well-established and favored mulberry cultivar. Early ripening and a precocious bearer (meaning it tends to start fruiting when the tree is still young), it produces incredibly abundant harvests of very sweet, large (2+ in. long) fruit over a shorter, 3-week period of time. Growth habit tends to be more spreading rather than upright, potentially making harvesting easier. Also said to be more “bird-proof” as berries do not go through the red-stage, drawing attention from the birds. “Kokuso” is often described as a quick ripening, more cold-hardy version of Illinois Everbearing and does not disappoint; It can even flourish where other cultivars won’t as it has been successfully grown as far north as Minnesota. Highly adaptable, vigorous and delicious, it’s an excellent choice for any one wanting to grow a top-quality mulberry nearly anywhere! Reliably resistant to popcorn disease.
