Italian Mulberry
A more unusual variety of mulberry, “Italian” it a large leafed, cold hardy mulberry cultivar. It produces an abundant crop of large, black fruits that have a delicious “mulberry” flavor.
USDA Zones: 6-9
Spacing: 20-25 foot ceters if allowed to grow to full size; 15-20 foot centers if doing semi-annual pruning to keep somewhat smaller
Grafted onto Morus rubra (native Red Mulberry)
Other Considerations: Mulberries are self-fertile but will bear more fruit with cross-pollination. (This means if you buy one tree you will get a small amount of fruit but if you buy two or more trees, each with different names, you will get substantially more fruit.)
