The Perfect Pairing: Superior Size, Flavor & Disease-Resistance

(Morus alba x Morus rubra)

A selection by the renowned mulberry breeder A.J. Bullard of Silk Hope, North Carolina in the early 1800’s during the United States silk industry, this tree is a widely adapted ever-bearing mulberry that can tolerate both extreme drought and high humidity. While flavor and berry quality is most often compared to Illinois Everbearing, it is said that Silk Hope is actually superior in flavor and size and is also much more resilient to fungal diseases of the South (high resistance to popcorn disease), making it a better choice where these are an issue. Considered low chill (200-400 hours), it can grow in zone 5 and above but may experience late Spring frost damage some years depending on climate and location. Begins ripening in June and extends all the way into August, Silk Hope is an excellent choice for those wanting superior quality fruit with a unique history and high adaptability.
