Honeydrops Mulberry
A “Beautiful Beginnings Special Cultivar” it is a non-staining, pinkish/purple semi-dwarf mulberry from Louisville, KY introduced by my former nursery. Semi-dwarf growth habit. Great for fresh eating and excellent dehydrated.
USDA zones 5-8 (estimated)
Spacing: 15-20 foot centers if not pruned; 10 foot centers if kept pruned
Grafted onto Morus rubra (native Red Mulberry)
Other Considerations: Mulberries are self-fertile but will bear more fruit with cross-pollination. (This means if you buy one tree you will get a small amount of fruit but if you buy two or more trees, each with different names, you will get substantially more fruit.)
$39.99 – $59.99
A seedling tree found in the Highlands of Louisville, KY and which was introduced by my previous nursery, “Honeydrops” is a sweet gem of a tree. It has a semi-dwarfing growth habit (15-20 feet tall and wide) and produces delicious non-staining, light pinkish/purple mulberries. Berries can be eaten when white but will have a much more subdued flavor. When allowed to ripen and turn a lovely, almost translucent pinkish/purple color, the flavor becomes more pronounced, sweeter and nuttier. The tree can be pruned and kept more like a bush if desired. Besides eating fresh, the fruits dehydrate well and make a wonderful addition to oatmeal, granola, and trail mix.
