A Dependable Choice
Selected by Doug Campbell of Ontario, Canada as a seedling of the well-known Titan cold hardy almond tree, ‘NC-10’ is a dependable choice, especially for those in cooler, humid climates.
A seemingly self-fertile (or largely self-fertile) almond, it does not require a second cultivar to bear nuts. The nuts are average/medium size with well-sealed shells and a sweet, non-bitter kernel that does not disappoint.
Prized for its reliability in production and notably higher disease resistance, especially in cool, damp, humid climates, ‘NC-10’ can thrive where other standard almond trees might struggle.
The Hardy Almonds that BBN provides our customers are all self-fertile, though a second cultivar could help increase crop yields if desired. They also prefer deep, moderately fertile and well-draining soil with full sun. Once established, they show good drought tolerance. Nuts generally ripen from September through November and are ready when the outer green hull splits open.

Spacing: 15 foot centers
Rootstock: Lovell Peach; a highly recommended rootstock as it provides excellent winter hardiness, consistent tree vigor, and good compatibility. It performs best in well-draining, slightly acidic to neutral loam soils
Pollination Requirements: Hardy Almonds are self-fertile though a second cultivar (different named hardy almond) will improve yields.
