The Gold Standard

Coming from the high mountain ranges of northern Iran and introduced to this country by nurseryman Cliff England, ‘Javid’s’ is renowned for its spectacular amaretto-like flavor. When coupled with its ability to be fully hardy down to Zone 5, its no wonder why this tree is the gold standard for hardy almonds. (There have even been successful trials of it surviving in sheltered Zone 4 situations.)

The tree blooms later than most other stone fruits, helping to ensure the blossoms are not damaged by late spring frosts. Kernels are thick but easy to crack into and it also has very high disease resistance to common fungal and bacterial issues that other stone fruits can suffer from.

USDA Zones: 5-9

Rootstock: Lovell Peach; a highly recommended rootstock as it provides excellent winter hardiness, consistent tree vigor, and good compatibility. It performs best in well-draining, slightly acidic to neutral loam soils

Pollination Requirements:  Hardy Almonds are self-fertile though a second cultivar (different named hardy almond) will improve yields.
