Developed as a cross between “Sunflower” x “Overleese” by Cliff England of England’s Orchard in Kentucky, “Summer Delight” easily lives up to its name. Featuring a vibrant, sunny-yellow pulp that is exceptionally smooth, even velvety, and which is contained within a thicker, more durable skin making it a good cultivar choice for those wanting to transport pawpaws for sale. The flavor has a mellow tropical profile with notes of mango, banana and pineapple that has been described as “sweet and refreshing”. Considered a gourmet cultivar, the flavor and texture is first-class.
“Summer Delight” fruits are medium-large in size and have an exceptionally low seed count. Tree is highly productive and grows more compact than other cultivars, making it especially suitable for those with limited space. Fruits ripen very early (late July-early August).
