NC-1 pawpaw was Introduced by Doug Campbell of Ontario, Canada in 1976. It is a tried and true favorite, especially for those in the northern growing range of pawpaws. A ‘Davis’ x ‘Overleese’ cross, it produces medium-sized fruit with a nice dense, buttery texture and a mild, sweet banana/mango flavor with hints of melon. While not as highly producing as some other varieties, NC-1 pawpaw is a cold-hardy, reliable variety that will produce delicious, excellent quality fruits in zone 5. Ripens early season.
