Found in the backyard of Ms. Nyomi, an elderly woman in Berea, KY and introduced by nurseryman Cliff England of McKee, KY, Nyomi’s Delicious pawpaw is truly a gem of a fruit. The tree produces high yields of large-sized (8-12 ounce) fruits that can grow up to a pound each. It has light yellow/orange flesh and a thick, dense, custard texture while the flavor is pleasantly mild and sweet with very little to no aftertaste. Nyomi’s Delicious pawpaw is one of the few pawpaw varieties that will show a color break when ripe, turning slightly more yellow. Ripens early season.
