Caspian: One of the Earliest

Discovered in the wilds of southwestern Iowa by Tyler & Danae Halvin and named after his son, “Caspian” is a real treat.

The flavor lacks any hint of bitter aftertaste and is described as having the usual tropical pawpaw flavor but with undertones of bubblegum. The pulp has a dense, custard-like texture that many people prefer.

Fruits are medium-large size and are significantly bigger than typical wild pawpaws. The tree is considered high-yielding and reliably bears an abundant crop each year.

Beyond having high production of good-sized fruits that lack bitterness and have a slightly more unique flavor, perhaps the most exciting thing about this tree is that is ripens its fruits very early, being one of the first to be ready to eat in the season. Fruits have been recorded ripening at the end of July, making this a top choice for those in climates with shorter or cooler summers.
