Halvin: King of the Wild

Another excellent pawpaw found in the wilds of southeastern Iowa by Tyler & Danae Halvin, “Halvin” is a highly sought-after variety of pawpaw. Considered to bear the largest fruits of any wild pawpaws known, they remarkably contain no bitter aftertaste and have a low seed-to-fruit ratio. The fruits also tend to grow as singles or in cluster of 2-3, making them easier to manage and harvest.

The flavor of “Halvin”, while being the typical sweet pineapple/banana/mango flavor, it is a bit more mellow and smooth than other cultivars which can be especially nice for those wanting to enjoy pawpaw but without all the intensity. Texture is creamy and dense.

The tree itself is vigorous in growth and is considered to be more cold-hardy and resilient in harsher climates. Fruits ripen early (August- September)

*Not to be confused with “Halvin’s Sidewinder” which is another selection by Halvin.*
